Foreign Relations in the U.S./Interview with Aaron Marrs - December 1, 2011

President Lincoln's Cottage and the Office of the Historian of the U.S. Department of State hosted a public program to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Foreign Relations of the United States (FRUS), the flagship publication of the Department's Office of the Historian. Burrus Carnahan, noted Civil War and Lincoln author and scholar, interviewed Dr. Aaron Marrs, Civil War Researcher with the Office of the Historian, on Marrs' new research that sheds light on foreign relations in the context of the Civil War.

Children's Book Signing - June 25, 2011

Author and presidential historian, Jane Hampton Cook, signed copies of her book, "What Does the President Look Like?" at the Robert H. Smith Visitor Education Center at President Lincoln's Cottage. A special raffle took place after the signing and book reading, and participants received 10% off of their purchases in the Museum Store.

Voices of the Civil War - May 18, 2011

President Lincoln's Cottage hosted the Heritage Voices of the Washington Revels in this special spring event. A visit from President Abraham Lincoln highlighted this program of American folk songs, spirituals, patriotic music, and readings. This program was free of charge and was held in the rain location - Stanley Chapel, adjacent to the Cottage. Watch the video HERE.

DC Emancipation Day - April 16, 2011

President Lincoln's Cottage offered two sessions of the award-winning interactive program Debating Emancipation to the public. At 11:00am and 2:00pm, on a first-come, first-serve basis, visitors had a chance to take on the role of one of President Lincoln's cabinet members and debate emancipation. Deaf Appreciation Day

Our inaugural Deaf Appreciation Day, on June 5, 2010, offered special Cottage Tours that included ASL interpretation provided by Birnbaum Interpreting Services and were exclusively reserved for deaf and hearing-impaired visitors. The day was made possible through generous donations by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Lincoln's Shakespeare

President Lincoln’s Cottage took a dramatic look at Lincoln’s Shakespeare with Michael Anderegg, Shakespeare in Film scholar and actress Audra Polk on June 3, 2010.

Remember Abe Scavenger Hunt/Quiz

The “Remember Abe” quiz was a partnership of Ford’s Theatre and President Lincoln’s Cottage the week of Abraham Lincoln's assassination. The winners have been announced and prizes awarded. Thanks to all those who participated!
